What ignited your interest in education? I started “teaching” my baby dolls when I was old enough to talk, so my interest in education began early! I have been passionate about educating ever since, and I have had some awesome opportunities to serve the community college system in Mississippi. What is the best advice you can give to someone who is teaching online for the first time? My best advice to someone teaching online for the first time is to begin simple. Meet the basic standards for your institution and create a plan for what you will add over time. Typically, it will take three to four semesters before you feel like your content is where it needs to be. Map out your first four semesters with goals for improvement of your online content, and change your goals if needed as you receive student feedback.

CHRISTINE DAVIS Pearl River Community College Instructional Design Coordinator My favorite vacation destination is any nice, warm beach with clear blue water. It really doesn’t matter which beach as long my family is with me. My two little ones love to play in the sand, splash in the waves, and find seashells. What is your favorite Canvas feature, and why? One of my favorite Canvas features is Module Prerequisites and Requirements because it guides the learner to view the content in a sequential manner that makes sense. So often we see students poke around a course and get lost or go straight to the graded assignments and miss the teaching content. By using requirements and prerequisites, you keep students where you want them to be to get the most benefit from the course. What are some of the most important skills for an eLearning instructor to have? I think the most important skill for fully online instructors to have is a thorough knowledge of Canvas. The goal of an online instructor should be to create an environment that mimics the face-to-face classroom experience as much as possible. If the teacher knows how to use Canvas and the tools that integrate with it well, the student experience will be optimal. Where is your ultimate vacation destination, and what would you do there? I'd love to visit Morocco. I love the narrow streets, colorful pottery, handmade textiles, and leather goods. I also consider

myself a "foodie" and would love to explore the cuisine from this region.
