2025-2026 MELA Minutes

• Concerns exist that Turnitin may shift focus away from negotiations if an RFP is initiated. • If the deadline is March 2nd, an emergency meeting may be needed to make a decision. xvi. Priorities and Potential Service Interruption • Some institutions prioritize AI detection over plagiarism detection. • A temporary loss of plagiarism detection may be acceptable. • A solution in place by the fall semester is generally desired. xvii. Summer Assignments and LTI 1.3 Transition • Concerns exist about disrupting summer assignments. • A move to LTI 1.3 within Turnitin will require instructors to recreate existing assignments. • This transition should be considered when making a decision. xviii. Plagiarism Framework and Next Steps • Most institutions are using the plagiarism framework, which will not require assignments to be redone. • Dr. LeBrun will follow up with ITS to confirm details and communicate with the group. • A special meeting may be scheduled to make a decision. Intelligent Insights Pilot Program and Contract Renewal • There was a discussion about a demo and a quote, and potentially one school piloting Intelligent Insights. • If a school pilots Intelligent Insights, they will work with Canvas to get at least one complementary institution. • The timeline for renewing or amending a contract is about 120 business days from when everything is submitted to ITS. • Dr. LeBrun will reach out to Michelle Walker to determine a hard date for a meeting in March.
