CIP Code: The Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) Code provides a universal coding system for programs of study that allows for the accurate tracking, assessment, and alignment of program descriptions and program completions activity. CIP was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) in 1980, with revisions occurring in 1985 and, 1990, 2000, and 2010, 2020.
