HR Newsletters 2020

T his year has been a tough one already! Traumatic for many, but there is help.

Mental health conditions do not discriminate based on race, color, gender or identity. Anyone can experience the challenges of mental illness regardless of their background. However, background and identi- ty can make access to mental health treatment much more difficult. Minorities are less likely to receive diagnosis and treatment for their mental illness, have less access to mental health services and often receive a poorer quality of mental health care. Poor mental health can lead to a wide array of physical and emotional problems that can quickly snowball out of control; lack of help and support, poor mental health care access and quality of care can lead to suicide among racial and ethnic minority populations, the OMH reported. America’s entire mental health system needs improvement, including when it comes to serving mar- ginalized communities.
