General operational guidelines to follow
I realize providing lunch MAY be necessary at times (will be examined on a case by case ), however, I request that all departments schedule meetings at times to avoid agency expenditures on lunch or provide a lunch break for people to eat on their own. The agency will continue to purchase snacks. Within the MCCB and the community colleges, there are no expectations for the agency/college to feed the employee while carrying out their duties as part of their regular workday . These duties include attending same day meetings etc. This means when people travel to attend your meeting, this is considered part of their regular workday, thus there is no expectation for the agency/college to spend agency funds to feed the employee/person lunch. This situation is no different (my being at MSU) from my being in my office in terms of “who provides lunch to me”. The outcome is the same….I am expected to buy my lunch at the designated break or bring it if I chose to eat lunch. To show appreciation for participation, to provide a quality experience, while also exercising good judgement in spending, MCCB will provide snacks and drinks . MCCB will provide lunch as appropriate (case by case) based on policy related expectations when absolutely necessary . This policy will be published in the next month.. Please look at each situation carefully, utilize technology for meetings where appropriate, and adhere to policy guidelines. All, I know many of you are in the process of planning additional meetings and conferences. Based on recent examination of food expenditures and subsequent discussions, I want to make you aware of the following expectation. Breakfast- MCCB will not fund breakfast. Attendees/participants will stay at hotels which offer complimentary breakfast foods and are expected to have had breakfast on their own. Do not include breakfast as part of the agenda. Individuals who drive to Jackson for a “day” meeting and return home, are expected to have eaten prior to arrival or bring food they wish to eat with them. Example- If I were to travel to MSU for a meeting, I should have no expectations of MSU buying me lunch. I do expect MSU to provide the time/break to obtain lunch/ food. Continued…
Snacks- The agency will provide snacks to attendees/participants.
Lunch- Individuals who schedule meeting/conference events are asked to carefully examine what is reasonable to provide a nice experience while also taking steps to cut food costs to the
