ABOUT THE AGENCY

The Mississippi Community College Board (MCCB) serves as the coordinating board for Mississippi’s community colleges and operates under the fiduciary of ten gubernatorial appointed board members. The MCCB enjoys the distinction of serving the first junior college system in the nation. Previously recognized as the Commission on Junior Colleges, the mission of this board, created in the 1920s by the legislature, was to oversee the activities and growth of three junior colleges. Since that time, the Commission was replaced by the current structure of the MCCB in 1986. Mississippi’s community college system has grown to 15 public institutions serving approximately 200,000 Mississippians each year.
