MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
Jenkins added that he found that the problem existed more for the essay questions in English. e) Jackie Bailey-Hall had several students who came in to take their proctored exam. When the proctor attempted to put in the exam password they would receive an error message that stated the students had already attempted the exam. These students hadn’t even logged into the exam before. f) Tish stated that we need to provide detailed dates/times of when these problems occur within Blackboard. This will provide Blackboard with more information to pinpoint what the problem may be. We should also be communicating problems with the instructors. Since they are often times the first point of contact, have them get this information for us. We need to know things like what internet browser was the student using (Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Firefox, etc), are they on dial up or high speed internet, etc. Audra Leverton requested that this also be included in our discussions with Presidium. g) Christian asked that each of us communicate with our test proctors. They should only click the submit button once. Clicking it multiple times only causes more hits on the database and more sluggishness. g. Phyllis Johnson has several instructors that she would like to add to the community site. What is the best way to upload instructors into this site? Several schools manually add this through the GUI; however, it can easily be done via snapshot. h. Chris Jenkins asked what the best practice is for students who withdrawn from a course and including those students in course statistics at the end of the semester. He sometimes gets an old student who claims to have never taken an online course. Audra Leverton stated that all students, including withdrawn students, will appear on the course statistics. i. The Blackboard Service Pack 3 upgrade is not something that is being considered at this time. Christian feels that we have several upgrades that we have already completed in a short period of time. Terry Pollard covered the Best Practices Report (handout provided to the group). Please refer to the handout for detailed information. vii. Learning Objects will be presenting at our bootcamp in October. viii. Turnitin was installed on production earlier this week. Terry would like to thank Jennifer Powell at JCJC for testing this building block. Evelyn Yang will be contacting each school about conducting training at each college. This product is free through the fall 2008 semester. Jennifer Powell added that their website is very intuitive and provides several handouts, video tutorials, and an exceptional technical support line. She provided part of the PDF at the June 2008 DLC meeting. ix. Terry is hoping to have all building blocks installed before the fall semester. h. BOOT CAMP COMMITTEE REPORTS g. BEST PRACTICES vi.
