MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
training will be limited to 15 individuals. Scott is working with Christian on a training project plan for MS. iii. Jesse will be providing Terry Pollard with a list of individuals who registered and attended Wimba webinars/workshops. iv. Jennifer Leimer asked if we would be limited on the number of people who can use Wimba during the fall semester. Christian stated that Erin Vaughn will be coming down to SBCJC and discussing the IT issues with Ray Smith. This will be implemented in small doses state-wide. v. Jennifer and Buffy asked if there were any issues using Wimba on a wireless network. We’ve had problems with the video and sometimes application share ending when on a wireless network. Scott asked that we contact him on an individual basis. vi. Scott stated that you can setup the classroom for low or mid bandwidth when creating the course in the administrative panel. The mid-bandwidth is set as the default selection. vii. In the short-term, SBCJC will need to know what instructors will be using Wimba each semester. They will need to know which tools that the instructor will be using (example: live classroom, voice tools, or both). That will need to be turned on inside Blackboard. Terry’s recommendation is for the instructors to begin with voice tools and then move to the live classroom tool. viii. ITS has drafted the final version of the Wimba contract. That contract should be signed and mailed sometime next week. ix. We are looking to roll Wimba out in September. h. RESPONDUS CONFERENCE CALL i. Shea will be our account manager for Respondus. He has been with Respondus for the last 8 years. Christian asked that Shea discuss the roll out and best uses. ii. Shea stated that MSVCC is getting both Respondus testing tool and Lockdown browser. This will be provided at the system level, so anyone in the MSVCC system will have access. He recommends that everyone review the online resources offered through the Respondus website. iii. Respondus is the exam offering tool. Instructors can build their exams on their own computers and load those exams directly into Blackboard and Desire2Learn. One of the most popular features is the import questions tool. Respondus test bank network is a free resource offered. They have partnered with McGraw Hill, Pearson, etc. This tool is quick and easy for instructors to use. iv. Lockdown Browser is the second product. The Goal of the Lockdown Browser is to eliminate digital cheating options when students are taking online exams. This is a custom browser downloaded on local computers (proctoring centers). This tool prevents students from copying exams, submission views, eliminates their ability to access external websites and personal computer applications. A built in calculator and excel spreadsheet is provided in the browser, eliminating the need for students to bring in calculators or open application on the computer. v. Lockdown Browser Options:
