MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

f. eLearning Training Updates – Terry Pollard

i. Audra Leverton made the motion to add Brooke Doggett from Hinds to the training sub-committee to replace George. Julia Parker seconded and the motion carried. Phyllis indicated that the person who may replace George would also be good on this committee and Terry agreed that they could use another good technology person. ii. New Registration system for Professional Development-Ive has agreed to build out a system for us to track our faculty who are participating in PD from SBCJC. Audra asked what happens when a faculty member works for more than one school. Terry indicated he would look into that. Currently there is no way other than contacting Terry to determine if an instructor is registered in or has completed training. iii. Year Two funding for AT&T grant is not available however a one-time opportunity exists. iv. MSVCC Academy will be the new name of the training tab. It will be cleaned up so that it’s not so cluttered and people can navigate more easily. Terry has been working with Bb to resolve some of the issues like maximum number and roles. There is a role that can be assigned to facilitators to allow them to see what they need to see without giving them functions they shouldn’t have. No one seemed opposed to this. Alicia brought up the possibility that the presidents’ new leadership training is called “academy” but no one thought that would cause issues. v. More training opportunities will be available in the Fall. Terry is trying to have Teaching Effectively beginning each Monday during the term for 12 weeks. vi. Terry had statistics for the last 5 years on the student evaluation in ET. The group discussed how these compare to on-ground classes. Jennifer Leimer asked for thoughts on doing the survey earlier or doing a two-part so that we have a baseline and an endpoint survey. She made mention of changing the survey to include questions about how students feel about the whole process. Several suggestions were made including some type of online orientation that students would be required to take prior to their first online experience. Unsure of how that would work out. vii. Sharon Hudson at Hinds will be finished with a flash-based Bb tour for students in the next week or so. New Business a. Online courses that do not go through MSVCC-Audra Leverton wanted to survey the group to find out if anyone was offering fully online courses without going through MSVCC and how that was measured. No one seems to be offering these. b. Enrollment Tool: Instructor Role-Christian Pruett wanted to survey the group about what schools allow the instructors to register students. Some schools want this and some don’t. Some other minor changes would occur but those will come out separately by email. Jennifer Leimer indicated this would definitely cause issues for MGCCC. Audra suggested that we add an Advisor Role for people who need to register and remove that option from Instructors. Jennifer asked Audra to submit the request to the ET committee.
