MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

iii. Quality – if I am a DLC, I would rather place quality courses up there, rather than all courses. We need to ensure that we are fully evaluating the courses. There have been some questions on the quality of content included in online courses. Dr. Muse and Dr. Clark have been providing support for us also. We have to hammer on quality on our campuses, even if this means that dept. chairs will have to evaluate courses. Christian stated that he feels that we should come up with a standard form for evaluating courses across the board. iv. For future meetings, we are going to have what you call an “email clicker.” This individual will be the person with chief authority for sending email in the meetings. All of those that wish to send an email, will have to go through the chief email clicker. A thirty minute break will be providing for using laptops and checking in with your office and email. There have been some reports in the past that people are conducting work during the DLC meetings, which is sometimes distracting to those sitting around them. We want to encourage everyone to be engaged in the meetings as much as possible. Christian would like for everyone to email him concerning possible dates for the upgrade. They are looking at the first week of August. ii. The email override is now functioning. iii. At the July meeting Christian would like to conduct a brief presentation on Bb errors. He would also like for DLCs to provide feedback on best practices. As we continue to grow, we need to ensure that (1) the data is as accurate as it possibly can be when being sent to Bb (2) please get your IT dept. to save a copy of your last snapshot file from the previous semester. Julia Parker requested that this training also be recorded via Wimba. She is not the person responsible for handling this through Co-Lin, and would like for the person responsible to either participate in the training session or view the recorded session at a later date. A Wimba classroom will be setup for this event. iv. All user records for the semester should be sent one week prior to the start of the semester. This will allow us to correct any problems before the semester begins. h. Proctored Evaluation Form – Derrix Betts. The form is located on page 23 of the Policies and Procedures manual. Derrix would like to know who he is supposed to submit this form to and also if other institutions are using this form. The form is used to show deficiencies in proctoring centers, when more computers are needed at a college. Julia stated that she read where the form was to be brought to the President of the DLC Association on an annual basis. Buffy made the recommendation that this form be completed on an as needed basis, for those schools that do have a need. Christian will then forward the request and/or recommendation to the school president. He recommends that all schools complete this form on an annual basis. Those that have severe discrepancies can provide more detail than those that have no needs at the time. g. Blackboard – Christian Pruett i.
