MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
c. Fee Schedule
i. Audra passed out a Fee Schedule. She stated that the colleges reported the fees on the spreadsheet, so if it is not correct colleges should talk with Business Office Managers. ii. Some colleges are talking about adding a ‘convenience fee’ to short-term courses. There is no regulation that prohibits an additional fee. d. Midterm Grades i. In April’s meeting, there was discussion about USM requesting midterm grades. Because Ive will have to build a feature in the ET, there needs to be a vote this meeting:
1. Tish Stewart made a motion that we require midterm grades for 8-week and 15-week courses in the ET for online courses starting Summer 2015. Keri Cole seconded. Motion carried. 2. Jenny Jones asked about short-term and summer courses that do not require midterm grades. Keri Cole stated that regardless of term length, the student still needs a progress report from an instructional standpoint. a. At this point, only 15-week and 8-week courses will be required to input midterm grades. We can discuss 4-weeks at a later time. 3. There was much discussion about the grade displaying on the Student Profile or not. Some were concerned that the student would try to use the printout as a transcript. Jennifer Leimer stated that if we do this, there should be particular wording underneath the grade that states that it is not an official transcript. 4. Midterm grades will be reported Monday following the 4 th week, for 8-week courses; and Monday following the 8 th week for 16-week course.

Everyone should turn on Canvas ‘draft state’ now, because before July instructors need a chance to get used to the new look. b. InstructureCon i. State Board paid for 18 people to attend. Three registrations have already been paid for people who have cancelled, but institutions would have to pay for rooms/travel. E- mail Audra and Beverlin if you are interested. ii. Party Night is 80’s themed. 1. Krista is going to design and order neon colored shirts created through CustomInk.com. Audra will pay for the shirts, and everyone can pay her back. This way, the group is dressed alike at InstructureCon. i. Jackson State has decided not to renew their partnership with the consortium. Audra met with them, and they explained that now have a new President with a different approach and are starting to offer their online courses. ii.
