MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
a) Option #1 – Each instructor, student, and proctoring center will be responsible for loading the Respondus lockdown browser on their personal computers. When the student, or user, enters the Lockdown browser they will be taken directly to the Blackboard login page. This login can be a unique log in page or there can be a dropdown list of each school. The student will select their school and proceed to the exam area. b) Option # 2 – Each school will have an individual login screen. c) There was some confusion as how this would work for the traditional courses versus the online courses and whether students would have to log in to two different sites to access the lockdown browser. d) Christian asked that the association consider the two options. e) Jennifer Leimer stated that we will also need to include a login link to Desire2Learn on the Respondus lockdown browser login page. All MSVCC schools will need to include this for their students taking D2L courses. vi. Christian asked if there was a plan in place for those that already renewed their individual college licenses. Shea stated that all recent license renewals would probably be placed on hold so that the payments are not processed. If payments have already been processed, those institutions will be refunded their money. Any school that has already renewed their individual license and has a school code can continue to use that key code through the end of the year. vii. Christian added that from a state board perspective, it is difficult to support Respondus because of it being a download on the local computers. He highly recommends that each school have a person on campus that can provide support on the product. Terry Pollard covered the ELT Report (handouts provided to the group). Please refer to the handout for detailed information. iv. Phyllis Johnson stated that she has experienced some audio problems when using the videos through Blackboard help. Terry mentioned that the videos that he has seen did not include audio; however, the E-Learning Training Team are developing better tutorials for training. LEARNING CIRCLE a. Tish Stewart, Terry Pollard, and Phyllis Johnson shared about their experience at Blackboard World in Las Vegas, Nevada. They each attended some excellent workshops and presentations. b. Phyllis attended a workshop on course checklists. The instructors were provided with a checklist of tasks to complete prior to the semester, during the semester, and following the semester. This was somewhat of a self evaluation for the course instructor, as the college did not mandate course evaluation. Phyllis felt that this type of checklist could be beneficial for those of us who evaluate our online courses. She provided the association with a copy of the checklist from the workshop.
