MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

our policies and procedures manual. She stated that she does agree that if the students is a Holmes student and has gone through the proper ADA Accommodation office at Holmes, then every school should abide by those policies. 1. Do we want a statement in the MSVCC Policy and Procedures Manual? Christian stated that MSVCC is currently compliant with the ADA statement on page 15. c. Professional Development – Caveat added to the self-registration page and to the announcement page. The language states for all three courses and for additional courses offered, the length of the course (number of weeks), that it is a free course professional development offering, and that the professional development/CEU credit is left up to each school. Which means that the faculty need to contact their CEU or PD credit if college approved. d. Debriefing of the Pre-conference. What was good/bad about the conference? Julia Parker mentioned, in a previous email, that there was good attendance at the conference. Christian stated that he felt that it went really well, except for the technology aspect, which was discussed with the Beau Rivage. They received a lot of feedback on the individual sessions. Several people mentioned that they would like to have this pre-conference next year prior to the CFTTC. They are planning for the pre-conference and CFTTC conference to be moved to the first week in March. That way Mardi Gras holiday will not affect the setup, travel, etc. Christian wanted to thank everyone for their support and assistance with the organization and pre-conference event. Within the next two weeks, you’ll be able to go back out to the conference site and review the presentations. The following suggestions were made for next year’s pre-conference: 1) Longer hands-on sessions 2) Have participants bring laptops and provide laptops for those that are unable to bring their own laptops 3) Provide participants with the sessions that they will be attending (maybe via nametag, folder label, confirmation email, even verbally during sign-in) 4) Refreshments and Diet Coke 5) Split up the hands-on into two sessions. Hold the same hands-on sessions twice in one day. That way we can reach more hands-on participants. e. Enrollment Tool requests. Christian stated that they have discussed last month’s request. Would like approval from academic deans to share the grade distribution. This is outside our scope. We need their permission to get this grade distribution. We need to make them aware of our requests that grades from their courses are not shared with other institutions. Would like to get dialog started with the Academic Deans before we move forward with this request.

President’s agreed during their Tuesday meeting to hire a lawyer to determine if we are required to provide information to “Pick a Professor.
