MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

b. SBCJC News Letter - Is anyone still receiving the SBCJC newsletter? Alicia Shows stated that she receives this from her President. We used to have a great deal of information about MSVCC in the newsletter. c. CFTTC Conference – See Item V. d. VIII. eLearning Training Group Update – Terry Pollard. In March 2009 we have 353 total graduates in the teaching effectively course; expect approximately 400 overall graduates before the end of the semester. This is based on an 80% graduation rate. Projected approximately 83 total graduates this semester alone. We will have approximately 130 graduates for the Wimba course. These numbers validate that what we are doing is beneficial. Andrea Mayfield would like to hold a Wimba Live Classroom course. Tish Stewart, Christian Pruett, Buffy Matthews, Jenny Jones, Sharon Hudson and Terry Pollard will be attending the Wimba conference and will come back Wimba certified. Christian and Tish will be attending the administrative pre-conference sessions. Buffy, Jenny, Sharon, and Terry will be attending the Wimba Certified Training Program. I would like for all of us to develop a Wimba classroom course developed to begin in the fall. Terry would also like to see Wimba courses for disciplines (example: nursing instructors). The key is to find people that are experts in the area in order to develop a course. For instance, Jenny Jones developed the Bb Early Warning Systems. Looking at additional options like “My Course to Go: D2L and Mobile Phones,” “My Course to Go: Bb and the iPhone,” “Little Known Tools”, “Bb Grade Center”, etc. Alicia asked if we ever made the MSVCC Course mandatory for all new faculty? This is determined by each school. Andria Mayfield stated that all her faculty would complete the Bb Early Warning System, Wimba Tools, and MSVCC Teaching Effectively courses before next fall (2010).

The certificate problem has been resolved. Students can now request their certificates, which will be verified.

“Remote Proctor – Secureexam” – Chris Square. Provided a handout. There are a couple of schools (UWA and Troy State) using this product. They can take their proctored exams at home by using this device (biometric software) verifies the fingerprint. $150 to purchase device with software. b. April, Audra Leverton – HINDS CC c. May, Tish Stewart - HOLMES Open Forum a. Why don’t we rotate campuses for our meetings? Several people were interested in rotating campuses. The only problem is for those schools that live further north and south. It is difficult to make a one-day trip to a campus on either end of the state. Wimba could be available for those institutions. Buffy asks that you consider the secretary. It is difficult to take minutes when participating virtually. b. Phyllis has a recommendation on CFTTC to be hosted at Tunica. Christian will make that recommendation to the committee.
