MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

complete surveys on additional types of training that they would like to use. Online instructors are not mandated to attend; they just request that they attend. Holmes requires new instructors to come to campus for two days, which teaches them about Holmes requirements (hands-on), etc. (6) ICC – they require that all online faculty to take a face-to-face course before they begin teaching online. They then require that they take one PD class per semester. This is only required in the fall/spring. They try to develop a new PD class each semester. They have some on building banners, Turnitin, Respondus, Wimba voice tools, etc. These are all on- site. They typically provide face-to-face and online sessions of each of the PD courses offered. The courses are anywhere between one and two hours per session. (7) JCJC – they did their own in-house Bb certification that all faculty were required to complete. Their college has gone all green and do not allow for handouts any longer. All courses require at least a syllabus. Faculty that already knew how to build items, were exempt from this training. They offered during different times of the week, etc. Contracts are not renewed until the faculty members complete this training. They were able to complete this because of President buy-in. All training sessions are conducted face-to-face. (8) MCC – They do basic, intermediate, and advanced training. All faculty are required to complete the basic blackboard training (staff information, syllabus, setting up menu buttons, etc). Intermediate is online and dealing with EagleNet, Enrollment Tool, etc. Advanced training – Turnitin, Respondus, Wimba, etc. Dean is making it a requirement for each division chair to setup advanced training by summer 2010 (Wimba, Turnitin, and EWS training). (9) MDCC – Do not have a mandatory training program. Created a faculty liaison for the instructors and will provide individual work with students on Bb. Dean is going to mandate that more teachers complete the MSVCC training and the faculty liaison will be over this. Her goal is to develop some tutorials for our instructors to help as a point of reference for both faculty and students. FAQs. (10)MGCCC – Jennifer and Buffy are the primary DL trainers. We conduct approximately ten training sessions, per campus, per semester. We have begun to build some online training for our faculty. Our college Executive Council has just approved that all instructors will be require to have at least one web enhanced shell. Most of our training is on the basic training, and we typically add new training in the spring (Wimba, Respondus, Turnitin). There are tons of PD workshops offered on a variety of other topics. We do use the MSVCC training courses and will continue to use those that are built into Desire2Learn. (11)NEMCC – The first day that faculty and staff return to the school, half of the day they are required to attend technology training. All courses are required to post a syllabus in a course shell. Their academic deans are responsible for checking these courses shells. She did mandate that the faculty attend Respondus course this summer in order to teach a fall course. (12)NWMCC – require online faculty to take two training sessions per semester. They can do that through NW or through MSVCC. She has one online driven workshop. Fall schedule
