MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

It was suggested that the Enrollment Tool give the ELCs a report that tells what students have a reinstate date after the audit date. So ELCs can gather documentation for those students. Christian will look into these suggestions. The new e-audit system will be available in Spring 2012. There were a few questions about the new e-audit system. Do we have to have a printed signature? Can we provide an e-signature using the new audit system? Christian will have to ask Ive. MBCC Business-Christian Pruett and Terry Pollard a. SP6 Upgrade. According to Christian, this upgrade will fix some of the problems we have been experiencing. In particular, the problem where buttons are duplicating is one of the problems that would be fixed. Christmas break is being discussed as a possible time for the SP6 upgrade. c. USDOE Regulation. The US District Court did not approve the USDOE regulation. The regulation was not approved because the colleges were not given enough time to prepare. This regulation will most likely resurface. Christian would like for all ELCs to continue to send their list of out-of-state students. d. Alternative LMSs. Christian would like for the group to begin thinking whether to renew our Blackboard contract (which ends June 30, 2013) or begin looking at other LMSs. Some of the Learning Management Systems that were discussed were D2L, Instructure (Canvas), Pearson Learning Solutions, Moodle, Siki, etc. According to Christian, Instructure looks the most promising out of all the systems. The question was asked, “will we still be a dual-platform state?” The Presidents will have to make that decision if we decide to look at other systems. b. D2L upgrade. D2L’s upgrade is scheduled for the second week of Jan. 2012.

e. MELO site. Terry presented the new MELO site to the group.

f. MSVCC site under construction. Terry discussed that there will be changes made to the MSVCC site. He would like to include people at the community colleges to help with the development and design of the new site. He prefers that these people have experience in graphic and website design.

g. Academy Certificates. Academy certificates from the spring and summer 2011 semesters were passed out.

h. Blackboard World 2011. Terry discussed his trip to BB World. Terry will provide handouts about the sessions that he attended.

i. Academy. New courses will be added to the Academy. These courses will be for instructors that have already taken the Teaching Effectively Online course. Rebecca Butler at Hinds will conduct a training session on the day-to-day management of an online course. Jenny Jones from Holmes is creating a Grade Center training course.
