MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

 Training-spokesperson Mark Smith (MGCCC)

Mark Smith presented the Training component of the Distance Learning Strategic Plan. The group reviewed and discussed the final draft of the training component.

1. Margaret Britt (CLCC) suggested removing her name from the “Process” portion of the component.

2. Mrs. Britt recommended changing any reference of Blackboard to the generic term “Learning Management system”. This will take into account any changes in software until the strategic plan is updated. 3. Mr. Smith asked that we consider the time frames referenced for Training over the active period of the Strategic Plan. The association approved the suggested time frames.

4. Hubert Yates (MCC) suggested adding the process for retraining in the plan to include the updating of training modules as needed.

5. Mr. Smith informed the group that J.P. McInnis (CLCC) had reviewed the Network Support area of the Training component and approved of the groups plan.

 Technology-spokesperson Jennifer Leimer (MGCCC)

Jennifer Leimer presented the Technology component of the Distance Learning Strategic Plan. The group reviewed and discussed the draft of the technology component.

1. Mark Smith (MGCCC) advised the association members to inform their colleges’ technology staff of the goals and objectives of the Distance Learning Strategic Plan and explain what the plan is attempting to accomplish. 2. Mr. Smith suggested moving the last sentence from #6 (Policies and Procedures for Interschool Operability) to the Administration component of the strategic plan.

 Quality-spokesperson Hubert Yates (MCC)

Hubert Yates presented the Quality component of the Distance Learning Strategic Plan. The group reviewed and discussed the draft of the technology component.

1. Jason Pugh (SBCJC) suggested adding the Dean’s Association as a Responsible Unit on Goal II, Objective I.

2. The association agreed to move Goal I (Ensure quality on-line courses by preparing instructional faculty and potential students for participation in the online environment.) to the Training component of the Strategic Plan.
