MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
IV.
New Business ET Recommendations: Stacey from Technology committee. 1.
Easy clean report that shows drops by reason (csv format). We have a withdraw report but it is not in a clean report that can be viewed in Excel or csv format. Would make it easier to manipulate the data. Jennifer Leimer noted that the report we already have has all the fields we need, we really just need it in a downloadable format. Keri asked for a motion to vote on making the report downloadable. Krista made the motion, Vanessa seconded. Motion approved. Akiah contacted Ive and said he could make the change. 2. Withdrawn status: There was a button that said reinstate that disappeared. Discussion of when we previously voted on leaving open the reinstate feature. The group believes this was previously approved. Akiah is going to ask Dr. West if there is an issue with this concerning audit purposes. Otherwise the group has to email Beverlin with requests for reinstates. This item will be followed up on pending Dr. West's decision. 3. Can the ET be modified so that instructors can only see their specific courses? This would alleviate students being dropped accidentally from the wrong course, or seeing which courses made and which ones didn't. MGCCC states that their faculty need to see all courses due to registration rights. Keri felt there was probably not a way to rectify this issue since many instructors help with registration. This item is not feasible at this time and cannot be voted on. V. Jennifer Leimer recommended that based on us needing to research previous minutes that we need to develop a meeting data base since we keep discussing topics repeatedly or having to search the minutes. Keri mentioned that we look at the Neat Desk scanner and the key word capabilities. Krista is going to test out the Neat Desk for keyword capabilities. Report back on the July meeting. VI. Should we consider LDA as the last day or access or the last day of participation? Vanessa stated that her instructors are having difficulty separating last day of participation from the last date of login. Vanessa wanted to know what the rest of the group is doing. Elizabeth state it should be based on the last date of participation. Keri stated that financial aid purposes stated that students have to show academic progress which is based on participation. Keri is using an online attendance database and the instructor is responsible for identifying the last date of participation. In Canvas, under People you can view their activity and last time they submitted. If a teacher uses MyLabsPlus or another publisher product, then the teacher would need to use their participation in those portals. MCC is still using access as the LDA since we do the same for traditional courses. However, if a student fails to complete assignments, then they will be dropped for lack of participation. Jennifer Leimer stated that in order for us to come to agreement and have the same process across the board, and then we would need to put a policy into place. Statement in place with a minimum of what a teacher is required to do to monitor attendance. Jennifer Leimer noted this as a weakness of the group since we all process attendance differently. Keri noted with loan default rates, and issues with enrollment, consistency would allow us to eliminate students who are just sitting on the roll waiting to collect a check. Jennifer
