MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

Leimer asked that one of the committees review this topic and look to present a policy that the group can vote on. Administration sub-committee will review and present a minimum participation requirement to present at the July meeting. Vanessa brought to light that our withdrawal rates will increase but Elizabeth discussed that this will increase our completion rates and possible success rates. Keri discussed that Hinds does a deregistration period where if a student does not have financial aid, a payment made, or a payment plan set up then Hinds drops the student. If they can get monies in place within three days, then they put them back in the course. Once students get their monies in order they can also register for late start classes if they feel they have missed too much time in a class. Keri is going to send her documentation out to the group since many of the colleges were curious about this process. Keri also mentioned active participation regarding if all assignments were completed during the first couple of weeks of class. Should something be completed each week? How to show academic progression? Administrative committee will present in July for review and revisions before being presented to the Deans for vote. Kim asked what LDA we should provide to host colleges for the time being. Since each college is doing it differently we can either accept what the college gives us or we need to be specific on whether we want access or participation. This will continue until we define an attendance policy for the consortium. Academic preparedness is a key factor for completion. VIII. Tish discussed No Show policy for the summer. We give one week for summer no show and two weeks for Fall and Spring. This came about after Chris Jenkins requested an extended No Show time due to his students not being able to access Canvas courses. Tish wanted to clarify that she did not want to be the only one following the one week policy. Chris stated this was a onetime deal since this was our first time with Canvas and were still working out the "bugs" in the system. Elizabeth followed up on this that we need to adhere strongly to the dates that we vote and approve and that the State department notify us if the dates are not going to be adhered to. Keri mentioned that she has added the dates to the calendar and asked Akiah if it was an automated process in ET. Akiah said that a date is put in the ET and stated that the state will start sending out reminder emails regarding upcoming dates and deadlines. MCCB Business-Akiah Gipson a. Akiah sent out the NBC Learn LTI. Asked who wanted to install their own LTI. b. NeTutor was approved. In July we will finalize training, etc. We will go live with NeTutor for Fall. Smarthinking will end on 8/1/2013. IX. VII. Running Statistics still not functioning in ET. The group is requesting that running statistics be turned back on. Most of us use these to complete our daily reports. Keri has asked that Akiah speak to Ive to get these turned back on and turned back on with accuracy. Akiah will report back to the group.
