MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

ix. Audra stated as a benefit to a consortium purchase, we are able to see both hosted and provided students. So, a consortium purchase is beneficial, rather than per- college purchases. x. A motion was made by Vanessa Alexander to vote between these two products to be bought at the consortium level. The product could be used based on each college’s preference. Cynthia Williams-Roberson seconded. Below are the college votes: 1. Coahoma – AspireEDU 2. Co-Lin - Dropguard

3. East Central – AspireEDU 4. East Mississippi – ABSENT 5. Hinds – AspireEDU 6. Holmes – AspireEDU 7. ICC – AspireEDU 8. JCJC - ABSENT 9. Meridian – AspireEDU 10. Delta – AspireEDU 11. MGCCC – AspireEDU 12. Northeast – Dropguard 13. Northwest – AspireEDU 14. PRCC – AspireEDU 15. Southwest – ABSENT

a. Vote resulted in 10 Aspire, 2 Dropguard, and 3 absent votes. b. MSVCC Colleges will only use AspireEDU for eLearning purposes only for the first year, and then could transition and/or pilot for college wide if needed. AspireEDU is three dollars per student. It may be March before President’s approve, then will go before ITS. i. Jenny pointed out again that if AspireEDU is used college wide, traditional instructors must use Assignments and Grades in Canvas, or the software will not work. c. Schools that voted for AspireEDU should discuss with their presidents about the controversy of the purchase and what the benefits of the product are.
