MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

iv. NetTutor will host dinner on Thursday night – more details to come. Krista is talking with other vendors about hosting dinners during the week of CFTTC. 1. NetTutor system will be going to the new ‘Worldwide Whiteboard’ this summer, and will be proposing a pilot and conversing about this during dinner for the summer rollout. i. Audra sent out an e-mail regarding which schools will have a paid InstructureCon registration fee by MSVCC. Schools should register this week with the promotional code in the e-mail. c. Audit i. Audra passed around a ‘Clarifications’ document. The registrars should have already gotten this document. To summarize, the SIS is the document/record used for auditing grades, not the ET. So, grades will not come from the ET . The only data coming from the ET is a small file for ‘cross-over/host-provider students’. The SIS must be correct because this is where data for audit will come from. d. Marketing Proposal i. Audra met with Maris, West, & Baker regarding a marketing campaign for the MSVCC. Audra stated that ELCs should discuss with their public relations people about the MSVCC marketing. Audra stated that at this point, this is only ‘food for thought’ – it is high priced, and only came out of a 30-minute conversation. It is not time to proceed with voting, only to discuss. 1. The Maris, West, & Baker marketing proposal for MSVCC was based on a suggested $50,000 budget. 2. One item proposed would be an MSVCC Brochure which could be branded per institution. Each college would have to charge for printing. 3. Animated explainer videos promoting MSVCC by speaking to the benefits of the distance-learning program were another proposed item. b. InstructureCon 2014 ii. Audra has many calls from students asking which colleges have totally online programs. SACS has already approved programs, and has already approved distance learning. So, ELCs should discuss with their Academic Officers that many programs can actually be offered as fully online programs. Many schools are missing out by not promoting their fully online programs. There is much controversy around this topic, but State Board is getting many calls asking about these online programs and right now the website is not very friendly in promoting these programs. State Board does not know where to direct the students, especially the out-of-state students who are requesting a particular program. e. Mini Terms i. Deans and Presidents both voted for the mini term proposal. The new ET will be ready and tested by November 2014 for registration for the spring term. ii. Audra is getting a calendar together for our current offerings using the control date guidelines. The calendar will be sent to the Administrative Calendar committee to approve before it is sent out. Then, four-week terms can be added to the calendar. Audra hopes to have the calendar out by the end of next week or so. a. Jennifer James said that Hinds has video production department, and it would be much more cost saving to have colleges work together to develop marketing materials for the MSVCC rather than paying an outside source such a substancial amount.
