MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

presented on the Aquila Catalog at Retreat. Krista is holding a place with ITS in the queue regarding Canvas contract, but needs to finish submitting all documentation soon for the contract. Amendments to contracts will be more difficult moving forward, so the recommendation is to vote for the addition now in the event we wish to use it in the future. Pricing for one college a year is 12k, so the price point of 1,500k per college for the consortium (all or none) is an excellent price point. Motion to add in Canvas Catalog to the Canvas contract made by Kim Ellis and Seconded by Christa Wilhite. Motion Passed. B. BFAC – Contract up for renewal; ends in December (Krista will double check and confirm). Need majority vote to move forward. PRCC, ECCC, NWMCC, and Holmes use the app but are willing to look at alternatives. Motion to dissolve the contract with BFAC made by Jennifer Leimer and seconded by Michele Mitchell. Motion passed .

Open Forum A. Northeast MILD Grant Presentation – Instructurecon

Lodging is expensive and set up for people who come with groups of two or more. Sabine called resort and booked a single to save money (idea for those of us traveling solo in the future). Dates set for next year in July in Keystone, CO. Same location. Bring comfortable shoes! Many vendors in exhibit hall. Keynotes were informative, and the entertainment was great at the end of the day.

Videos from Instructurecon are available at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Df9rJOluOw&list=PLKAGO__0NI1AbMfFX7IroqFpiX0BjvKJ2

Instructurecon is Sabine’s favorite conference!

B. No Shows (Kim Harris) – Instructors questioning no show policy with attendance work vs completed work. Per our policy, documentable work is considered attendance in regards to no shows. Recommendation to look at how we are handling no shows to ensure we are following policy consistently since No Shows can impact a college financially. Keri Cole recommends reviewing dates because we have overlapping withdrawal and no show dates, so it can be confusing for those processing withdrawals. Institutions have local policy and procedure to consider; we seem to do things differently regarding the WD/NS process. C. Books in online courses (Kim Harris) – NEMCC is considering a move to ebooks. Old hard copy books were showing in classes, and there are local differences in textbook adoption policies. NEMCC pulls in many courses, so they have seen impact from old books being listed. While a resolution won’t be found today, it is worth further discussion to see how ebooks have impacted MSVCC sharing. Will revisit conversation at a later date.
