MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
iv. The new Parature/Presidium system will provide self-support for both students and faculty. They access this page by clicking help in Blackboard/Desire2Learn. They will be removing “knowledge base” from the list of links on the home tab. v. Tish added that Presidium has an excellent reporting tool, which can provide you with the number of students who received support at the MSVCC level, as well as the college level.

NEW BUSINESS d. D2L UPDATE v.
Jennifer Leimer and Buffy Matthews attended the Desire2Learn Fushion conference in Memphis, TN. There were a lot of great workshops and presentations. Several of the sessions were conducted by Desire2Learn staff, which provided a great deal of knowledge and experience. We would like to encourage others from the state to attend next year’s conference. Conference information should be provided in the next few weeks. vi. Desire2Learn upgrades were conducted on Tuesday for MGCCC local server and Wednesday for the state server. Those upgrades went very smoothly. The Learning Object Repository will be the only area that will have to be remapped in the entire system. vii. When we first completed the upgrade from Desire2Learn 8.1 to 8.3 students and faculty were unable to see the college link without downloaded Internet Explorer 7 (IE7). After submitting a support ticket, we found that there was a custom widget with coding that could only be read by IE7. That issue has been resolved. Students and faculty can use previous versions of Internet Explorer to access their courses. viii. MGCCC would like to look at the possibility of adding our hybrid/web-enhanced courses to the state server. This move would allow us to integrate Desire2learn with our Student Information System. We feel that Desire2Learn should be on an equal playing field with Blackboard, since the state is dual platform. All schools should have equal benefit to a state system. This recommendation has been made to Dr. Lott, MGCCC President, SBCJC, and Desire2Learn. Desire2Learn has conducted many SIS integrations, including a large integration for Tennessee Board of Regents. ix. Jennifer Leimer and Buffy Matthews will be presenting user and course management training at bootcamp. This training is geared toward DLCs and can be beneficial for those of you who support students taking Desire2Learn courses. When sending up your course files in snapshot, please set the course duration date at least one week following the last day of courses. Many students attempt to see their grades and are unable to access them because of the course duration dates. Also note that if you set the course duration to end on July 31 st , the course will disable at 12:00a.m. that morning. It does not go through the entire day of July 31 st .
