MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

are on the calls. On-site training up to 15 individuals at the campus level. This allows you to become the expert at your campus. Jennifer Leimer asked if we would be limited at all on the number of people who can use Wimba this fall? Christian said that Erin Vaughn will be coming down and sit down with state board IT. This will be implemented in small doses. A lot will depend on Ray Smith and how he feels that this can be handled on our network. Need to keep tech contacts in the conversation so that we conduct all rollouts properly. Scott said that it is also important to provide necessary professional development in the product before providing it to everyone. Faculty need to understand how the tools work. Buffy and I have played around a good bit that when playing around around with Wimba on wireless networks we have difficulties. Scott asked that we contact him on the individual issue that we are experiencing with the video component. Jennifer asked if we could setup the classroom for low bandwidth in the beginning. Scott said that you could choose this from the creating classroom option on the administrative side. He recommended that you do experiment those settings. He’s not have a problem with medium or lower bandwidth. Medium bandwidth is the system default. Audra is asking if this is still something that needs to be turned on in each course. Terry said that in the short term we need to know who is wanting to use the tools, and which tools they would like to us (voice, live classroom, or both). Terry recommends them introduce the voice tools the first semester and then use live classroom in the future. Christian said that we were very excited to hear that Scott would be working with our group. ITS has drafted the final version of the Wimba contract and should have that signed and mailed off within the next week. Looking at rolling out in Sept and rolling it out slowly. Contract is coming along well. e. RESPONDUS CONFERENCE CALL – TERRY POLLARD. Had Shae with Respondus on the phone. Would like to talk with the group about how we will roll the product out and how it can be used on our campuses. Will be our account manager and has been with the company for the last eight years. Getting respondus testing tool and lockdown browser tools. Will be at the system level so anyone who would like to use the system has access to that system. Our website provides a great overview. Respondus is the exam offering tool. Instructors can build their exams on their own computers and load those exams directly into Desire2Learn and Bb. One of the most popular features is the import questions tool. Respondus test bank network is a free resource offered through Respondus. Partnered with McCraw Hill, Pearson, etc. Exam offering tool. Quick and Easy for instructors to use. The other program is Lockdown Browser. Goal is to illuminate digital cheating options when students are taking exams. Custom browser downloaded on the local computer (proctoring centers, etc). Prevents students from copying test questions, cannot browse external websites, etc. Would be happy to setup webinars in the future. Take a look at the online resources that are provided through our website. Jennifer said that when we are in the lockdown browser and the system will freeze up, can you save any of the answers. Not going to affect any of the normal Bb functionality. If you have to close out, it would be like normal when having browser issues. Tish asks what if the instructor needs to use a calculator. There is actually a calculator and excel spreadsheet tool that can be added to the lockdown browser environment. Also have a knowledge base technical support offered on the website. First of all with Respondus 3.5. each instructor, proctoring center, etc will need to be loaded on the individual computers. Lockdown browser program. You can provide students with the weblink to download the software. When students start up the lockdown
