MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

browser it takes the student directly to the Bb login page or Desire2Learn login page. You can select a unique log in, there will be a list of each school to select. Option B is to have an individual download page for each institution. Audra Leverton said that if it sounds like if we have a student taking virtual courses as well as traditional courses that we would have to download two lockdown browsers. Christian asked if there is a system in place for those that have already renewed their local licenses when we begin picking up the state license. Shae said that he believes that the licenses teams will “Hold” the renewals for those that purchased individually. If those were processeved they will provide a refund for those schools. Audra asked the question on how to prevent a student from taking an exam not using the lockdown browser. Is there an indicator in the course? Christian said that the issue with Respondus from a state board prospective it is difficult for us to support that since it is downloaded on the local computers. Christian recommends that you have someone on the campus to be responsible for Respondus on the campus. He asks that we think about the login options that Shea. Jennifer also added that we think about that some schools do offer courses through Desire2Learn and will need to consider these login as well. It was a great learning experience all around. Heard some really good keynote speakers included: Donna Selelik, who is now the President of University of Miami and using technology in the classroom and Steve _____ the developer of the personal computer. Some instructors developed a checklist of what instructors to do before classes begin, the first week, during the semester, and after the courses ended. They did not evaluate their instructors in California. Phyllis felt that this could be beneficial for those that evaluate online courses. Tish said that she and Jenny Jones conducted a session and asked that Terry step in to provide state board perspectives. Tish pulled out the SafeAssign & TurnItIn presentations. She did want to say that she appreciated Terry and Christian coming in and pushing the state of MS. Bb is also looking to integrate Nevada and Utah, but those systems do not have as many customizations as we do. We were able to discuss issues with them in a face-to-face environment. One thing that we need to think about. With SA and TII we will have instructors post student assignments into these sites. If the paper comes back as plagiarized, we have to develop college policies on what is considered plagiarism. Is it just an entire paper, or percentage, etc. Holmes has setup a committee to determine what is considered plagiarism. Each instructor will need to have students complete a plagiarism assessment so that students are aware of what plagiarism is. If a student does have portion plagiarsed, how are we going to count that (20% deduction of points, etc). The Honesty policy is not going to cover plagiarism. With these instruments, we need policies in place. Should develop something at the state level. Dr. Qualls said that you also need a policy on intellectual property rights. That paper that they wrote is now going into the TurnItIn database and they are making money on the product. Need some sort of policy IX. E-LEARNING TRAINING GROUP UPDATE – TERRY POLLARD.
