MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

value to a handbook that provides checklists of tasks to be completed, which could be approved by the presidents. The idea of an MSVCC Faculty Handbook needs to be added to the agenda for next month. This handbook would not set policies, but act as a guide for online faculty. Some schools need administrative support at their institutions. In terms of evaluations, Terry Pollard stated that he and Christian can automatically post an announcement in all Bb courses notifying them on the student opinion survey. Christian stated that they are working on an evaluator role that would provide them with all evaluation results and allow them to evaluate the faculty themselves. Christian would like to also see the Deans implement mandatory audits of course content. Not necessarily every semester, but a small sample of courses. Chris Jenkins would like to have the results submitted in spreadsheet view, for all faculty, rather than individual results. He would also like to see the compilation average automatically. In doing so, we should consider the scoring on those surveys. Some sections are scored using four points and others three points. Jennifer Leimer mentioned that we may also want to evaluate through a withdrawal survey as well, currently all of the students that withdraw are not evaluated. Currently you have to average the students manually. VII. BREAKOUT DISCUSSIONS. The committees members will stay in place until Bootcamp (October) 2010. Bruce is making a motion for one person to rotate off of the committee each year. The recommendation is to dedicate thirty minutes to a single committee at the next meeting and all members participate and provide ideas for that one committee. Each committee is still working outside of the DLC meeting. The group re-assigned committees so that DLCs do not serve on more than one committee. Committee chairs can only be DLCs, but other attending members can participate in committees. Dr. Jenkins recommended having break out meetings during lunch (30 minutes). Chairs will have a wimba meeting to provide agenda items for the next meeting. The following changes have been made to the DLC Association Committees: a. Best Practices – Terry Pollard (chair)  Training sub-committee  DLC Boot Camp sub-committee  Student Orientation sub-committee (READI software) 1.
