MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017

Contact with USM – Michele Mitchell stated that sometimes it take a week for Amy Thornton at USM to respond to emails. USM has not been processing enrollments and withdrawals in the Enrollment Tool correctly.

SBCJC Business

SACS Statement – The Administration Committee was asked to write a policy statement for MSVCC based on SACS statements 4.8.1 and 4.8.2. The policy is requested for the next eLC meeting.

Christian Pruett asked the eLCs to contact their congressmen and ask them to vote “yes” on House Bill 2117. The bill “ would halt the implementation of the state authorization regulation that requires an institution offering distance education to be approved in every state where a student is enrolled before the institution offers the coursework.” Purge Dates for Blackboard - No more than six semesters need to be kept in Blackboard at any time. State Board will start purging old terms after the end of each semester.

eLCs were asked to think about agenda items for Boot Camp.

Snapshot and Blackboard Support – An overview of the snapshot process was provided (See Attachment). Please send problems that cannot be resolved locally to Christian Pruett. If he cannot resolve them, he will send the issues on to Blackboard.

Presidium – Christian Pruett asked the eLCs to think about the following:

1. Are we happy with Presidium? 2. Is it worth trying to get out of the contract? 3. If we disbanded Presidium, how would we handle supporting users?

ET Subcommittee - The ET Subcommittee met to talk about ways to automate information in the Enrollment Tool. The main topic was a batch process to get data in the Enrollment Tool. Each college will run scripts to dump data in the Enrollment Tool. The eLCs will get error reports that show enrollments that were not processed because of closed classes. Colleges will eventually have problems with SACS if students are able to self-register for traditional classes but not online classes.
