MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
that was present in the investigative meeting was interested in getting away from 16- week courses all together. iii. With mini terms, the MSVCC would have to keep semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer) because of audit and funding reasons, but would have terms within the semesters. iv. Keri suggested that we write a policy that will protect a college if they decide not to pull in mini term course. Keri also suggested that our ELC group get together for a workday with a whiteboard and think through mini-terms and all of the implications such as proctoring, textbooks, advising, offices closed on campuses, etc. (December 12 th at 9 a.m. at the Muse Center was decided as a meeting date for a mini-term workday.) v. The group discussed proctoring for mini term courses. Many schools use Proctor Centers for other testing/computer use when online courses are not in exam periods. 1. Jennifer Leimer suggested that we look into utilizing ProctorU for proctoring for mini terms. 2. Elizabeth Spooner suggested that a proctoring software be utilized for proctoring appointments outside of the ET. Proctors spend many hours looking up exam information, materials, etc. The scheduler would only allow students to sign up for dates and times that the test is available. 3. Audra stated that this is a great idea, but we need to decide on priorities. Right now, so many things are on the table that may be more important than purchasing proctor software. She suggested that Elizabeth write a proposal of what she is requesting. 1. Audra stated that if she were to vote on a proposed calendar, she would vote for the third calendar that is presented. She is afraid that this calendar will not be flexible enough for others to vote for. Debra West will be emailing out possible scenarios. Audra asked the group to carefully read over the calendar and meeting notes before the workday on December 12 th , and to make a list of questions. She also urged colleges to talk with their Financial Aid representatives. Tish suggested that we ask our colleges if they are willing to gamble our instructor sections not making on a 4-week class, knowing that a 15-week course would make. a. Many schools are prorating instructor pay for classes that do not have more than 10 students, and letting the sections make. i. Refer to Strategic Plan Goal #3 1. Audra reached out to Maris, West, and Baker and they have agreed to have a fact-finding, preliminary research meeting regarding the MSVCC marketing campaign. The Marketing Subcommittee and members of Maris, West, and Baker will meet to talk about what we marketing we would like to see for the MSVCC (website optimization/search, creating templates for branding for career fairs, create a commercial that could be paid for in different markets/TV stations). After the meeting, options and costs would have to be approved by the group – launch could be June or June prior to Fall. 2. The individuals that expressed interest in being on the Marketing Subcommittee were: Keri Cole, Kimberly Ellis, Shanelle Frazier, Michelle Sumerel, and Phyllis Johnson. vi. Proposed Calendar:
