MELA Meeting Minutes 2003 - 2017
audit to let them know that there are changes that need to be made. Audra stated that she would talk to the Auditing person at the State about sending this e-mail out. 8. Keri asked Ive if we would need to contact the other college’s that we have pulled in, that do not have grades in. Ive stated that the process has not been defined yet, and there will be more to come regarding this issue.
b. Instructor of the Year
i. Nominations should be turned in. The Chief Academic Officer for each college evaluating this year should be e-mailed to Audra.
c. eScience Labs i. eScience Labs would like to present to the ELC group. They will be vendors at Creating Futures. The group decided that the eScience sales people should contact the instructor’s individually for buy-in. d. SARA Update i. The state of MS has to determine if they want to participate in SARA. Mississippi does want to be part of SARA, but there is much work to be done. Community colleges and Universities are eager to become a part of SARA, but the Commission for Proprietary Schools is concerned (for marketing reasons, etc.) ii. In the meantime all 50 states are going through the approval process. Contact State Board for approval letters if you need them. e. MSU Enrollment Concept i. The VP of Admissions and Enrollment Services, and Director for Distance Learning Services at Mississippi State University discussed with Audra and Debra West an interest in a seamless transition for college graduates to go into a four-year online program with a one-enrollment process. The Community College Board would be endorsing this program, and each college would have to opt in. Once a student graduates, the student can transfer over all enrollment information/transcripts, which would trigger the MSU Distance Learning Office to contact the student. The Admissions application form for each college may need to be altered if the college opts in. The student would choose if they want to participate or not. Once the other Universities here about what MSU’s concept, they may also decide to offer something similar. This would give Community Colleges an additional recruitment tool. This would not apply to students who want to transfer before graduating – the student must graduate from the Community College first. Call with Canvas i. Audra stated we aren’t getting Enrollment Reports. Kevin is looking into the situation. He confirmed that the files are processing. ii. Audra asked if files being processed over the weekend. Kevin stated that Canvas is not f. running on the backend, but they will turn on the feature to run for the weekend. Akiah asked if the ET was sending files over the weekend, and Kevin said he would check and let us know. Ive stated that he thought files were being sent on the weekend. iii. Keri asked why it was taking so long to upload files last week. Kevin said some files were being submitted twice – same data, just being duplicated. This was an issue on Canvas’ end, but has been fixed. iv. Keri stated that some students were not in Canvas that should have been. Kevin stated that those errors were due to the status of the enrollment in the ET. The most recent
